Fergburger, The Nevis, and teapots
I woke up in the morning freezing!! As it turns out summer on the south island dors not necessarily mean warm. Got on the bus (again) and headed towards Wanaka. On the way we stop at a puzzle place. They had a whole bunch of optical illusions and stuff. We hung out in Wanaka for a while. Went to the grocery store and down by the lake. The next stop was the bungee center at the K bridge. They showed us a video on the start of bungee and then we watched a couple people jump. I signed up to do the Nevis, the highest bungee in NZ, for noon the next day. After that we continued on to queenstown. I showered and got ready to indulge in the infamous fergburger, a place that sells anything from bambi to tofu burgers. I just gor the standard fergburger (which was amazing). The motto is Ferg loves you, which was pretty fuuny seeing as it was valentines day. At least ferg loved us. Lol. We spent most of the time laughing about how confused I get when the english as me questions like "what time do you make it?" and have no idea what they want. Haha. I also found out that all new yorkers are expected to be found walking around with a starbucks machiatto in one hand and their cellphone in the other screaming about the stock market. Haha. After that kate and I went for a walj around town. She bought a cd and I bought another delicious ice cream cone (they're addicting). We were hanging out by the harbor an wishing we had our swim suits on when we ended up meeting two guys on a bench (one english and one from boston!!). We joined them for a beer and told them we would meet up with them later. Got dressed and headed down to the hostel bar. It was a pajama theme so all of the tables were beds instead. It was pretty good! The two guys we had met that day showed up and wanted to go to a concert. While we were finishing our drinks I ran into people that I had met in auckland on the day tour!! Victoria, russian, and her friend from kazikstan that pretended he was borat all the time. :). They decided to come with us. We made like 4 stops at different bars before we made it to the place with the band. It turned out to be a drum and bass band with a cover so I passed. everyone else decided not to go either. We went to one last place to grab some celebratory drinks for victorias bday!! The next day I slept in late and then wandered around the harbor for a bit. There was a band. At 1130 I headed over to the bungee place. A whole bunch of people from my bus were going as well and this guy chris had volunteered to take pictures. (I actually thought he was irish because he said something like "me knickers" and all I could think of was "they're after me lucky charms", turns out he's english) I checked in and then they bussed us over to the bungee place. Even the ride there was scary! It was on top of a huge mountain. We got all harnassed up and then they had to put us on the cart over to the bungee platform. I was literally just a little gondola suspended over a huge ravine. We got over to the platform and it didn't feel much safer. Haha. Chris came over and started taking some pics for me. We watched a few other people go before it was our turn. I ended up being the first one in our group to jump. I think the only reason I wasn't scared was because I didn't think about it. They sat me in a chair and hooked me up to the bungee. My feet were strapped together and the bungee was also carabenered to my chest. The guy explained that on the top of the second bounce I had to pull the cord by my foot because it would turn me upright. I made him explain it twice so I got it right. Haha. I hobbled over to the platform and out to the edge. He counted to three and I jumped like I was diving into a pool. The whole experience was kind of surreal. Let's be honest I was falling through the sky with just a bungee attached to my legs.what a adrenaline rush. When I got to the bottom I realized that I forgot to scream. Haha. I screamed a bit but by that point the bungee had already caught me. At the end of the secound bounce I pulled the cord. That was by far the scariest part!! It undid my angles from the bungee. I panicked for a second until I realized that It was still securely fastened to my chest!! They pulled me up and I was a little shaky abd still uzzing from the rush. We watched 2 more people go and then headed over to the arc to watch 2 of the girls do the swing. I decided to get the video and pictures on dvd. When I got back into queenstown I decided to hike up to the skyline gondala. It was supposed to be a gorgeous view and the gondola was $20 to take. I understand why people pay to take the gondola. The hike took forever and was pretty much straight up a mountain. The view was definately gorgeous though. You could see all of queenstown and the mountains in the distance. I explored the visitors center for a bit and then headed back down. At the bottom I found a cabin for sale for 40 grand. It has a beautiful view and I think I should buy it because that's only 20 grand american. The spot itself is probably worth that. I went back to the hostel to relax and shower. After that anne, kate and I headed to the world bar. They serve teapots of mixed drinks. We ended up meeting an english guy who had flow 36 hrs to be with his girlfriend who promptly dumped him on valentines day. We bought him a couple drinks and invited him to our table. Chris and his friends showed up and we had a really good time. I had to wake up early the next day to grab the bus to christchurch. It took forever! I stored my bag at the hostel there and walked around for a bit. I ended up going to an internet cafe to try to download my pictures. It ended up taking me 2 hrs to dowload 16 pictures. I guess for some reason they are not showing up on my blog. If your interested you can go to ohotobucket.com and search schongej. They are under the trip album. After that I got my bag and headed to the airport. My flight was really early in the morning and I figured I would just stay ther for the night.

ReplyDeleteWow - I've been reading and enjoying your blog. The bungee for sure sounds like quite a rush - tells me that your courage levels are much greater than mine - even when I was young. It is very interesting to read your adventures and follow your trip. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for sharing the photos as well - I was not aware of Photobucket - that is way cool. I had a little trouble at first and ended up seeing someone elses pics, but figured it out (once I saw naked people....) pretty quickly. You got some great pictures - beautiful places and skies. Keep safe and enjoy the ride. Mike D.
